Ingredients

Ice cream float base
  • 4 vanilla ice cream
  • 2 cup black cherry soda Chill before using so the soda foams.
  • 0.25 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 4 maraschino cherries For garnish.
  • 1 whipped cream For topping, optional extra.

Method

Assemble the floats
  1. Place 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream into each of 4 serving glasses.
  2. Slowly pour 1/2 cup chilled black cherry soda over the ice cream in each glass, letting it foam up as it hits the ice cream.
  3. Sprinkle 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips over the top of each float.
  4. Add a dollop of whipped cream to each glass.
  5. Top each float with a maraschino cherry and serve immediately with a straw and spoon.

Notes

For the most foam, start with very cold black cherry soda and pour it slowly directly onto the ice cream. Refrigerate leftovers in a covered container up to 1 day, but note the soda will go flat; freezing is not recommended. For a lower-sugar option, use diet black cherry soda and choose a lower-sugar vanilla ice cream.
